Chapter-1.  Food: Where Does It Come From?

     Notes-
  1.1  Food Variety-
 All of us have seen different type of food in our life, even here we can eat different varieties of food everyday, such as-bread (chapati), pulses, vegetable, pizza, Burger . The food that we eat is made of different type of ingredients such as bread (Chapati) which made of flour and water.
1.2   Food Materials And Source
Whatever food materials we eat it comes from different sources.
Two major sources are:- plants and animals.
(a) Plants give us-                 rice,wheat,vegetables,pulses.
(b) Animals give us - milk, egg ,meat.
For instance:- Food item kheer contain different materials,that came from different sources.
 Milk- Animals
 Rice- Plants
 Sugar- Plants
1.3 .  Plants Parts And Animal Products As Food
We eat different parts of plants like roots ,stem, seed,  flower and leaves. Example:-
 Root -  Carrots, Beetroot
 Fruit - Tomato, Banana
 Leaves - Onion, Cabbage
 Stem - Asparagus
 Flower - Broccoli, Cauliflower
Animals give us:- milk, butter, cream, egg, beef, pork and fish.
1.4  What Do Animals Eat?
Different animals eat different type of food like cow eat grass, grains. Tigers eat other animals. Rats eat grains, seeds, nuts, some of them eat meat and fish.
According to their food requirement they are divided into:-
1. Herbivorous - Animals which eat only plants.
2. Carnivorous -  Animals called meat eaters ,they eat other animals.
3. Omnivorous- They eat both plants and animals.

Q1. Do you find that all living beings need           the same kind of food?
Answer- No, all living beings need different kind of food according to their food requirement, body structure and metabolism they are divided into -
(a) Herbivores:- animals which eat only         plants or plant products. Example-cow,   goat.
(b) carnivores:- they they eat other   animals. So, generally they are meat eater.   Example -lion, tiger.
(c) Omnivores:-  some animals which eat both plants and animals so they called Omnivores. Example- humans.

Answer.   Plants.                Parts that we eat

                   Tomato     -         Fruit
                    Onion       -         Leave
                   Broccoli    -         Flower
                 Asparagus   -        Stem
                   Carrot        -        Root
