Notes Of Ncert Class 6 Science Chapter 7 - Getting to know plants are given below
We offen observe different type of plants around us. Some plants are small, some very big, while some are just patches of green on the soil.
7.1 Herbs, Shrubs, Trees
Herbs:- plants with green and tender stem are called herbs. They are usually short and may not have many branches.
Shrubs:- some plants have the stem branching out near the base. The stem is hard but not very thick, such plants are call Shrubs.
Tree:- Some plants are very tall and have hard and thick brown stem. The stems have branches in the upper part,much above the ground such plants are called trees.
Creepers:- Plants with weak stems that cannot stand upright and spread on the ground are called Creepers.
Climbers:-Plants that take support on neighbouring structures and climb up are called climbers.
7.2 Stem
The stem bears leaves,flower and fruits. stem conducts water from roots to the leaves and food from leaves to the other parts of the plant.
7.3 Leaf
Plants contain leaves in different shape and size. The part of a leaf by which it is attached to the stem is called petiole.
The broad green part of the leave is called lamina.
The lines on the leave are called veins.
The thick vein in the middle of the of a leaf is called midrib.
The design made by veins in a leaf is called leaf venation.
It can be reticulate or parallel.
Leaf performs different activities such as-
1. Photosynthesis:- leaves prepare their food by using water and carbon dioxide in the presence of Sunlight and chlorophyll.
2. Transpiration:- water comes out of leaves in the form of vapour by a process called transpiration.
3. Exchange of gases through stomata that is present on the leaf.
7.4 Root
Major activity of roots is to observe water and Minerals from the soil and another the plant firmly in the soil.Roots hold the plant upright.
Roots are mainly of two types-Taproot and fibrous root.
7.5 Flower
The parts of a flower are sepals, petals, stamens and pistil. It help in reproduction in plant.
