4.1 OBJECTS AROUND US
We can see lots of objects around us like a pen, book, table, chair, cycle, toys and many other objects. All these objects have different shapes, colours and uses.
All objects around us are made of one or more materials. Those materials may be glass, metal, plastic, wood, cotton, paper and mud
4.2 PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS
There are different properties of materials:-
Appearance- Materials usually look different from each other. Wood looks very different from iron. Iron appears different from copper or aluminium.
Hardness:- Materials can be divided into two types soft and hard.
Materials which can be compressed or scratched easily are called soft materials.
While other materials, which are difficult to compressed are called hard materials.
Soluble or insoluble:- substance which completely dissolve in water are called soluble. Other substances do not mix with water and do not disappear even after we stir for a long time called insoluble in water.
Objects May Float Or Sink In Water:- things float, when they are less dense than the fluid in which they are floating. Things need to have a greater ratio of empty space to mass then the fluid.
Transparency:-
Transparent- Those substances or materials through which things can be seen are called transparent.e.g - plastic , glass.
Translucent- The materials through which objects can be seen, but not clearly.e.g- oily paper.
Opaque- Unable to see through them. e.g Metals.
